The Alumni Relations and Career Development Center (ARCDO), in coordination with the Networld Capital Ventures Incorporated (NCPI) of the PJ Lhuiller, Inc. (PJLI), held the PUP Boot Camp on July 30-31 at Cebuana Lhuiller Academy, PJLI Convention Center, Antipolo City to prepare the top academic achievers of the University and mold them into future leading professionals.
Led by ARCDO Director Engr. Florinda H. Oquindo, the event is a two-day training for 40 selected top performing students. They came from the Department of Computer Engineering of the College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Computer and Information Sciences (CCIS) to prepare them for their future careers with the help of PJLI experts.
The lessons provided in this occasion include the “Wellbeing Session” by Jonathan D. Batangan, “Definition and Importance of Professional Image” by Jo-Ann Y. Tacorda, “Components of Professional Image” by Betty Lou F. Narvaez and Patricia C. Fuentes, “Happiness is just a thought away” by Maria Martella M. De Guzman, “AI, Robotics, and the Future of Work” by Thomas Jefferson Dela Cruz, “How to Grow Your Career” by Richard I. Baguio and the “IT World of Cebuana” by Alec Henry Dy-Liacco.
The student-participants noted the importance of this activity in honing their skills essential to their future. Xyra Shenne Anson Gordora, a 3rd Year Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE) student stated “This boot camp has made me realize a lot of things. It surely adds insights when it comes to the workforce especially that tackles wellbeing, professionalism, and all those IT-related stuff that I know already, and it adds a lot more insights to me especially that it adds curiosity.”
This sentiment was also shared by Reiven Marckus C. Aniban, a graduating Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) student by saying “This boot camp helps us to be equipped with the knowledge on how we can deal in our professional career path. It’s an opportunity for us that this boot camp really gives us what are the real scenarios outside the school. It’s such an amazing opportunity for us.”
In addition to this, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the University and PJLI also occurred. In accordance with this partnership, a Community Partnership Program where the latter shall participate in university activities such as Career Talk, Mock Recruitment, and Job Fair. In addition, the two parties will implement career-centered initiatives such as Internships, On-the-Job Training (OJT), Student Immersions, Internships, Exchange of Knowledge on Information Sharing, which consist of Trainings for Faculty, and Staff and Employee Success Stories.
Richard Baguio, the HRBP-Talent Acquisition Department Head of PJLI hopes that with this new association, fruitful collaborations for the career development of the students will emerge.
“Looking ahead, we envision this partnership expanding to more collaborations, projects, maybe internships so that we can offer more real-world experiences to the students. These collaborations will help them keep up and stay ahead of the competition,” he said.
He also added their reason for their enthusiasm towards entering an agreement with the University, saying “We chose PUP as our industry partner because of its academic reputation and commitment to producing top talents. Actually, in our company, we have many active employees that are from PUP and these employees are leaders.”
Aside from Oquindo and Baguio, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman, Career Development Services Chief Jane S. Pulma, and Alumni Relations Services Chief. Ma. Joepe Solosa also attended on behalf of PUP while Administrative Chief Jo-Ann Tacorda represented PJLI.
