The University inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with food processing company Century Pacific Food, Inc. (CPFI) at its corporate office in Pasig City on May 21. Led by the Alumni Relations and Career Development Office (ARCDO), PUP and CPFI aim to bolster career placement and career opportunities for Iskolars ng Bayan. Under this agreement, both parties have agreed to enter into a Community Partnership Program to “strengthen, improve and develop a long and lasting business relationship” by offering career-focused activities. This includes internships, student immersions, and information sharing, as well as training for university students, faculty, and staff.
The importance of CPFI’s participation in university-led initiatives such as Career Talk, Mock Recruitment, and Job Fairs was also highlighted. “We are very excited to enter this academic partnership with PUP. We envisioned that this partnership will really take off in terms of providing both employment opportunities for the alumni and students of PUP,” CPFI Vice President for Human Resource and Corporate Affairs George Leander Wang III stated relative to the partnership.
“We know that PUP has a broad base of students across the country, very high academic standards, and you also build your students towards being very practical, being socially oriented, [and] being academically responsible. We’ve seen those attributes in the PUP employees that we have,” he added.
Wang advised students wanting to join their company to continue to do well in their studies and “to fulfill their mandate towards academic excellence and student leadership” to seek meaningful employment and contribute to society’s betterment.
Prof. Tomas O. Testor, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, shared his support for such partnerships in a separate email interview. “We’re glad that our units are actively seeking partnerships and collaborations with the private sector and industry leaders. We stand to gain much from these engagements, most especially in shaping the future of our students. This is consistent with our vision to become a leading polytechnic university and in our mandate to offer quality education to young Filipinos,” he said.
CPFI is one of the largest branded food companies in the Philippines. Beginning in 1978, the company focuses on “developing, manufacturing, distributing, and marketing affordably nutritious products” including meat (both animal-based and plant-based), marine (tuna and sardines), milk and mixes, and coconut.
