The Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ College of Education (CoEd) discussed “LITeratura: Impacting Education via Art of Critical Consciousness in English and Filipino Literature” as part of EDTALK 2021 Webinar Series last May 15.
The six-day series, EDTALK 2021: Achieving Learning Continuity through Innovative Teaching Strategies, focused on the Filipino and English core subjects with Mr. Glenn Sentes from Sorsogon National High School and Mrs. Angelita Saavedra from Mandaluyong High School as resource speakers.
In his talk on “Impacts of Localizing Literature in Contextualized Instructional Learning Materials,” Mr. Sentes pointed out three key ideas in making instructional learning materials for learners: Contextualization, Localization, and Indigenization.
When asked for advice for teachers and aspiring ones, Mr. Sentes said encouraged the participant to land on a job they love. “If you do love the work or the profession that you have, it won’t feel like work at all,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Saavedra tackled “Impak ng Panitikang Filipino sa pagiging Kritikal na Netizen bilang tugon sa Outcomes-Based Education” in her discussion, which focused on the uses and impacts of Filipino literature in helping students become Critical Netizen in this day of the technological age.
“Tandaan natin na hindi masama maging walang alam basta bukas ang iyong isipan matuto ng mga bagay na hindi mo pa nalalaman. Kaakibat ng pagbabago ang respeto at pagkatuto kaya’t pag-isipan ang pagkakaiba ng kritikal sa pagiging kritiko,” Mrs. Saavedra said as she ended her discussion.
There are still four (4) remaining topics from the EDTalk series which will be discussed this coming May 22 until June 12.
