PRESIDENT Emanuel C. De Guzman announced last Monday, March 4, in the University’s flag-raising ceremonies that he will push for moratorium on ‘educational tour’ to ensure the safety of the students and faculty members.
The president was reacting on a series of deadly “educational tour or field trip” last month which caused loss of lives.
President De Guzman said that the moratorium on educational field trip will take effect in the university until the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) issue a new set of guidelines on these activities. He also added that he will release a memorandum regarding this directive.
"Dito po sa PUP, Marami tayong ginagawang ganito (educational tour) Sikapin po nating sumunod sa mga alintuntunin. Tayo pong lahat, hindi lamang po tayo sa legal mananagot kundi sa ating mga konsensiya Ipinadala ng mga magulang nila, ng pamilya nila ang mga mag-aaral na iyan. Sa kanila, nakaatang ang mga pangako. They were looking out for their future na dahil lang sa isang aktibidad ay maaaring matapos," President De Guzman explained.
Last February 21, eight (8) persons including two teachers and four students, were killed when their bus crashed on Marcos Highway in Benguet. Thirty-one (31) tourism students and two teachers from Marinduque State College (MSC), including two tour guides, were on the Baguio leg of a three-day Manila-Ilocos-Baguio educational tour, when their bus driver lost control and collided with two other vehicles along the highway in Sitio Bontiwey, Barangay Badiwan in Tuba, Benguet.
