The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) formalized their commitment in enhancing research initiatives to create a positive impact on children’s media in the Philippines through a ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing on August 16, 2024. The event took place at the PUP Silid Lakan Dayang Board Room, Ninoy Aquino Learning Resources Center building, marking a significant milestone in collaborative efforts between the two institutions.
University President, Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, in his special message, highlighted the university’s commitment to research excellence and its role in shaping a generation that values responsible and educational media content for children. He expressed optimism that the partnership with NCCT would yield valuable insights and contribute to policies that protect and empower young audiences.
The MOA was signed by key representatives from both institutions. Dr. Anna Ruby P. Gapasin, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development, and Dr. Jose Reuben Q. Alagaran II, Dean of the College of Communication, signed on behalf of PUP while NCCT was represented by Executive Director Desideria Mance Atienza and Project Development Officer IV Judy H. Galleta.
After the signing it was followed by commitment speeches from Atienza and Dr. Gapasin, both of whom reiterated their dedication to the shared goals of the partnership.
The ceremony also featured a video teaser for the upcoming 1st NCCT National Research Forum on Children’s Media, scheduled for November 16, 2024, which will be hosted by the University. The forum aims to bring together scholars, educators, and media practitioners to discuss and present research on the impact of media on children.
In his closing remarks, Associate Professor Kim Bernard G. Fajardo, the overall head of the PUP Organizing Committee for the 1st NCCT National Research Forum on Children’s Media, thanked all attendees for their support and emphasized the significance of the upcoming forum.
The event concluded with the singing of the PUP Hymn, followed by a fellowship launch hosted by NCCT, providing an opportunity for further networking and collaboration between the university and the council.
The National Council for Children’s Television is an agency under the Department of Education (DepEd) that initiates and promotes the production and broadcasting of accessible children’s programs that are not only creative and entertaining, but also informative and educational to young Filipinos.
