Despite its proximity to Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Main Campus, the University's commitment to democratize access to educational opportunities for economically challenged members of the society is strongly felt in the very heart of the National Capital Region, the historic city of the so called AngDakilangLungsod ng San Juan.
Through the relentless effort of the City Government of San Juan under the administration of Mayor Joseph Victor G. Ejercito, who believes in the power of education in nation building, the long cherished dream of the people of San Juan to establish a public college in the city has began to unfold. It started with the issuance of Memorandum Order NO. JVE-C-13, Series of 2007, creating a Special Committee to study and prepare the ground works for the establishment of an academic institution.
Recognizing PUP as a state-run university whose track record and history began at the turn of 19th century and continued to flourish to this day as a stronger and viable institution of higher learning committed to effect change in the lives of the youth, the SanguniangPanlungsod of San Juan through City Resolution No.32, Series of 2007 authorized Mayor JV Ejercito to sign the Memorandum of Agreement with the University on December 13, 2007.
The SanguniangPanlungsod passed City Ordinance No.6, Series of 2008, known as “An Ordinance Establishing a PUP Campus in the City of San Juan, Metro Manila and appropriating funds thereof” on January 21, 2008.
The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by Mayor Joseph Victor G. Ejercito, in behalf of the City of San Juan and University President Dr. Dante G. Guevarra, in behalf of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines on February 20, 2008 becomes the landmark in San Juan's long history of struggle, this time against ignorance.
Subsequently, the PUP Board of Regents under Board Resolution No.613, Series of 2008 has approved and ratified the Memorandum of Agreement on March 14, 2008. Since then and for the years to come, PUP San Juan Campus strives to become Tanglaw ng Bayan saDambana ng Kagitingan.
Today, PUP San Juan City Campus which started as a locally funded campus is now a viable institution by virtue of Republic Act 11348 on 25 July 2019 and continues to grow and develop as a higher learning institution.
