The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) College of Education and Senior High School students participated in the first virtual Language and Culture Exchange with Kaohsiung Municipal Fu Cheng Senior High School, Taiwan, via Google Meet on June 10, 2021.
The event is part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the PUP and Kaohsiung Municipal Fu Cheng Senior High School, Taiwan last April 22 that aims to assist students in exchanging cultural and educational presentations.
More than a hundred students from both schools attended the said event, sharing enthusiasm and excitement on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have virtual interaction with a different nation.
Tina Lin, a teacher from KMFC, started the program by welcoming the students and the faculty members followed by a brief introduction by each teacher from PUP and KMFC.
“We are happy and excited about this collaboration. I hope everyone would learn and be happy with the activities that we will be having,” Dr. Rovelina Jacolbia, PUP Senior High School Principal said in her welcome remarks.
After the short program, the students were divided into 10 breakout rooms for the main part of the event where they shared presentations about the different cultures of the two countries. Several topics were discussed including food and places, popular influencers, film and television programs, sports, entertainment, and social media platforms. Students also exchanged social information for future and personal interaction.
The education partnership between PUP and KMFC will be effective until 2026.
