The cost of tuition is not an obstacle to getting quality education - this was proven by third-year Broadcast Communication students who not just bagged major awards in various film festivals but was given a chance to screen their masterpiece on the big screen.
Third year Broadcast Communication Student Angelo Joshua Amar and his team’s film titled ‘Pompoms’ was chosen as one of the finalists of Sinag Maynila 2018 Short Film Category.
Sinag Maynila is a film festival founded by Solar Entertainment Corporation, together with renowned Filipino Director Brillante Mendoza that aims to support local independent cinema. It showcases works from notable directors in local indie cinema.
Before Sinag Maynila 2018, ‘Pompoms’ was first recognized in the Adamson University's Realifim Festival on December 16, 2017 where it was hailed as Best Screenplay and Best Film.
It was also acknowledged in the Piling Obrang Vidyo held at the UP Cine Adarna, University of the Philippines - Diliman, Quezon City on January 27, 2018. Among 21 finalists from eight schools, 'Pompoms' bagged the Best Film, Best Narrative Film, Best Screenplay and Best Direction awards.
The same film also bagged awards including Cardinal Best Production Design, Cardinal Best Director, and Cardinal Gold film award in the recently concluded CineMapua 2018 Intercollegiate Category on February 20, 2018.
‘Pompoms’ is a fictional film about a kid named Lando who was a victim of child exploitation in Pagsanjan, Laguna. It was first previewed during the third Cinemaskom Film Festival at PUP on November 24, 2017.
