In a bid to expand its initial partnerships on COVID-19 response efforts, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) - Civil Relations Services (CRS) jointly provided food packs, face masks, and bottles of ethyl alcohol to pedicab drivers and family heads residing near the Sta. Mesa Campus.
A total of 300 food packs and face masks were distributed during the relief efforts held on May 6 at the Sta. Mesa Campus. PUP provided 137.5 liters of ethyl alcohol placed in 500mL bottles and 70 face shields (50 for the barangay and 20 for AFP) alongside the food packs. Executive officials who led the distribution include University President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, Executive Vice President Alberto Guillo, and Vice President for Research, Extension and Development Anna Ruby Gapasin.
Major Celeste Frank Sayson, head of the 7th Civil Relations Group, thanked other partners who pitched in for the food packs and face masks: “Kasama natin dito ang Tipsy Pig team nila Pocholo Barretto, REACT Philippines, FPJ Bayanihan Foundation, Hands Off Our Children, and the 101st Search Rescue Support Group.” He shared that the team have already visited various areas in the metro providing aid to those in need.
(“Our partners include Tipsy Pig team co-owned by Pocholo Barretto, REACT Philippines, FPJ Bayanihan Foundation, Hands Off Our Children, and the 101st Search Rescue Support Group.”)
“We have several lines of efforts. These include community-owned feeding programs. More information about the 7th CRG’s relief efforts may be found in their Facebook Page “Makabagong Jose Rizal.”
(“We have several lines of efforts. These include community-owned feeding programs where we provide for ingredients while community leaders cook for their members. We also have Tulong Uwi wherein we have already helped several PUP students reach their hometowns; Alalay sa Kapwa does the same but this time for transient individuals who had a hard time going home because of the lockdown. We assisted pregnant women and recently a group of sub-contracted construction workers. We also have Kabalikat Frontliners, done with the assistance of the Tipsy Pig Group. We provide ready-to-eat meals to our frontline workers. We also have Ayuda Para Sa Kapwa and Food for the Homeless.”)
Celebrity and Tipsy Pig Gastropub co-owner, Pocholo Barretto joined the relief operations at PUP. He shared that their team transitioned from preparing ready-to-eat meals for frontline workers to providing food packs for poor communities. He also thanked the PUP Community for spearheading relief efforts during the pandemic.
“Salamat sa inyong generosity at oras na pagtulong sa kapwa. Hindi kayo naghesitate. I hope you would inspire more people who are more fortunate to help those in need right now. In our own little ways, tumulong tayo,” Barretto said.
(“Thank you for your generosity and your commitment to help fellow Filipinos. I hope you would inspire more people who are more fortunate to help those in need right now. Let’s all hope in our own little ways.”)
