“Going Beyond Borders: Adapting Teacher Education Excellence in the New Normal”, is the theme resonated in the celebration of PUP-College of Education (CoEd) 11th Founding Anniversary held from November 23 to November 25, 2020. The three-day celebration was conducted online with the aim to help teachers adapt to the paradigm shift in education.
A thanksgiving mass and convocation was conducted on the first day of celebration. Chair of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Panel for Teacher Education, Dr. Purita P. Bilbao, graced the opening ceremony and delivered a lecture addressing teachers and teachers-to-be to reimagine learning in a way that would be more fitting to the demands of the present times. In her message, she also emphasized the need for educators to respond positively to the present current challenges through effective pedagogy and successful development of ICT, “The future has arrived; we have to make sure we have a place in it.”
Faculty and student webinars were conducted on the second day, discussing relevant topics about the pandemic. In the faculty webinar, an Australian perspective on Covid-19 and education was explored through the help of Mr. Michael Ey, . This was followed by a talk on online instruction by the very own faculty member of CoEd, Dr. Marion Cresencio. Students’ webinar revolved around the theme “Adapting Stress Management Techniques in Remote Learning” to help pre-service teachers in the area of mental health.
As a culminating activity, PUP-CoEd also conducted its 1st International Research Webcon and 6th CoEd Guro Research Awards in partnership with PUP-Research Management Office. The plenary speakers were research experts Dr. Simin Ghavifekr from the University of Malaya and Dr. Airil Haimi Mohd Adnan from the Universiti of Teknologi Mara. The said research webcon was attended by 53 participating universities, institutions, and colleges from the Philippines and other countries. The webcon intended to gather research enthusiasts from all over the world and invigorate teacher education research.
“We are very fortunate that we are given this noble task of preparing future teachers, future librarians, and future leaders of our country,” remarked Dr. Ma. Junithesmer D. Rosales, Dean of the College of Education. She also thanked and congratulated CoEd faculty members and students for participating and contributing to the success of the virtual celebration, .
“We are so blessed to have faculty members and students who are willing to sacrifice their time as well as showcase and give their talent to come to the portals of this college, which in turn, hopes to become a premier college in the future in terms of excellence in all areas.”
