With the shift of the Philippine Education System to K-12 and taking into account the latest development and technological trends in the field of computing, it is a great opportunity to bring forth improvements in the curricular offerings of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) and the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT).
The Commission on Higher Education through the implementation of CMO 46 Series of 2012, realizes the shift to learning competency-based standards/outcomes-based education specifying the core competencies expected of graduates of BSCS and BSIT. As the field of computing is very much dynamic, improvements in the curriculum must emphasize core principles and competencies that would enable graduates to adapt and learn skills in an increasing and developing technological and professional landscape.
With this, the CHED Memorandum Order 25 Series of 2015 or the Revised Policies, Standards, and Guidelines for Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS), and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) Programs is mandating colleges and universities offering the aforementioned programs to develop and craft a new curriculum that continues to be responsive to the current needs of the country and to be at par globally.
The College of Computer and Information Sciences (CCIS) is enjoining all of its stakeholders (faculty, students, staff, parents, industry partners, alumni, other educational and research institutions) to craft a learner-centered, outcomes-based curricula of the BSCS and BSIT programs to make its graduate globally competitive in the application of knowledge of computing to the discipline, utilization of modern techniques, skills, and tools in complex computing activities, and integration of professional, ethical, and social responsibilities relevant to professional computing practice.
The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program prepares students to become IT professionals with primary competencies in the areas of systems analysis and design, applications development, database administration, network administration, systems integration, implementation, and maintenance.
It likewise deals with the design and development of computer-based information systems for real-world business solutions.
Graduates of BSIT are expected to become globally competent, innovative, and socially and ethically responsible computing professionals engaged in life-long learning endeavors capable of contributing to the country’s national development goals.
