PUP Maragondon Campus has been awarded a certification by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) IV-A Regional Office in recognition of its unwavering support for internationalizing Philippine higher education.
This distinction became possible due to the nomination of one of its students, Rachel Mecaela A. Baxal, a 3rd year student in the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, to the 2023 Global Undergraduate Exchange Programs. This is a semester-long non-degree scholarship exchange program sponsored by the prestigious Philippine-American Educational Foundation Board (PAEF), otherwise known as FullBright Commission in the Philippines, which gives students from different countries an opportunity to study in the USA. In a letter sent by Julio S. Amador III, Executive Director of the PAEF, Baxal was among the nine (9) selected nominees from the Philippines out of the original 519 applicants for her “impressive academic accomplishments and credentials”. Baxal studied for one term at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bayone from August to December 2023.
PUP Maragondon Director Agnes Gonzaga noted that the award will serve as a stepping stone for the university to connect with other parts of the world, fostering an understanding of diverse knowledge, cultures, and educational and research levels.
“With our first step in internationalization, we open the doors to increase the number of qualified and interested students to be more competitive and motivated to experience the joy of learning in different parts of the world. With this, we add more quality in our educational system and increase the learning outcomes among PUPians of PUP-MC.” Gonzaga said.
