Global construction industry stands at USD 3.4 Trillion today. According to the Philippine Country Report 2014 the star of industry growth was the construction sector with a growth rate of 20.5% in the fourth quarter of 2014, and 8.5% from 2013 up to 2014, this is due to the robust performance of private construction and turn-around of public construction. The construction sector is also the second major employer under the industry group. The CALABARZON area has ranked 2nd in terms of value of construction at USD 0.3 Billion or 10.3% of the total. This growth is expected to continue and even increase in 2015 and in the coming years, with increase in infrastructure investments. Hollow blocks industry is one of the players in the construction sector. Being a small-scale business, businessmen can easily form this type of business, and it is usually linked with hardware and construction supply stores (Philippine Construction Ass. Inc., 2014. Philippine Country Report, pp.1-13).
In the present times, disposal of plastics has become a major environmental problem since plastic wastes take hundreds of years to decompose. So effective ways to recycle and reuse plastic are being formulated.
Therefore, the proponents came up with a business that manufactures hollow blocks with thermoplastic aggregates.
