The National Capital Region (NCR) bagged 166 golds, 76 silvers, and 60 bronzes, and awarded as the over-all champion in the State Collges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) National Olympics 2017.
The six-day sports competition held on February 19-24, 2017 at the Batangas Sports Complex, Bolbok, Batangas City where participants competed in various sporting events like archery, arnis, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, football, futsal, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and beach volleyball.
108 Students-Athletes and 18 Coaches from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines had been the prime contributor of the NCR medals. Among the PUPian gold medalists were Juan Miguel Bautista, Gerald Delima and Anjeanette Brillantes (Arnis); John Rick Fabian (Athletic); Richard Alcantara, Prince Daniel Joseph, Emmanuel Mendez, Alexander Nhazer Mohammed, Mico Antonio Pepito, John Zeus Pedrosa, Neljun Saldaña, Kevin Sta. Maria and Regie Tauto-an (Basketball Men); May Confessor, Anne Margaret Magbanua and Lizel Rodriguez (Basketball Women); Philip Octavio (Chess).
Ivan Christopher Agustin, Argie Batiancila, Khalid Bayao, McRail Domasig and Josemhiel Montiano (Karatedo Men); Maricon Cruz, Mari Jho Garcia, Crislyn Ignacio, Mari Rose Santiago, Abegail Mae Ynion (Karatedo Women); John Rey Aniana and Cyril Cababay (Lawn Tennis Men); Princess Nicole Agacia, Lyca Añes, Pamela Cindy Banculo, Andrea Kriselda Therese Dela Cruz, Angelica Estrella, Andrea Flores, Angeline Madrona, Jaqueline Mallari, Maria Kimberly Mecate, Agapi Llave and Diesa Sacate (Softball Women); Verson Dela Cruz, Jhustine Eden Jamias, John Angelo Larda and Argel Nano (Swimming Men); Kim Milan, Joyce Anne Palete, Jessa Reyes and Estelle Celis Tangco (Swimming Women); and Jenny Ann Araño, Carie Ann Pronuevo and Syra Jane Romo (Volleyball Women) were also among the participants who contributed to the big win of SCUAA-NCR.
Aside from PUP, 111 other state universities and colleges in 18 regions across the country participated in the annual event supervised by the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges.
